I am working with a client that needs to make some changes to their business to get where they want to be. The steps they need to take are numerous and can seem overwhelming to the point of being insurmountable. If you find yourself in a similar situation, I have some help for you.

Most people get overwhelmed when they think of all they need to do. To-do lists that rival War and Peace, constant interruption from social media, texts, phone calls, employees and unannounced visitors can make a day fly by with little accomplishment to show for it. Time management seems like a fallacy when, by definition, it is tough to manage too much stuff to do with too little time to do it.

No blog will solve that problem. Nothing will. Do less, delegate more and refine what you do is all you need to know in that regard. But what if you do have a lot to do and time is not against you, the thought of doing all that you need to do is paralyzing? That is to say try to picture what has to be done and your mind gets jumbled. Like designing a skyscraper, you may have the time, but where do you start?

My suggestion is simple. You need to keep 2 and only two things in your head at any given moment you feel overwhelmed. What are you trying to accomplish, what is the next best step you can take to work towards its achievement.

That’s it.

The end result and the next step are all you need to care about. Then do or schedule the next step. Keep doing that and the end result will show up.
